Marcus Murray | Executive Director


Marcus MurrayMr. Marcus T. Murray was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. He is a committed husband, father and Freedom Fighter for his community. Currently, Mr. Murray is a student at Depaul University in Chicago pursuing a Masters of Public Health with an educational background in History. He has presented many published reports dealing with the health of Black men before national government, state departments and local community audiences. He has also developed and implemented curriculums that train interested community workers, including high school students, in a variety of relevant health topics to become community advocates.

Mr. Murray is currently the Executive Director of Project Brotherhood “A Black Men’s Clinic” and has been a staff member since its inception a decade ago. Mr. Murray has recruited other Black men to attend and work in the program, most notably PB’s first barber. Marcus was the Assistant Director of Project Brotherhood for the first four years of it's development and is currently the Executive Director of the program. He is the leader of the "Work with our Youth" initiative and is responsible for outreach to local high schools and colleges. Marcus Murray is an equalizer for social justice.

Dr. Bonnie “Pete” Thomas, M.D. | Medical Director


Dr. Bonnie Thomas, M.D.Dr. Bonnie “Pete” Thomas, MD is a native Chicagoan, born on the South Side. He completed his undergraduate training at Xavier University of New Orleans, where he majored in Chemistry. He returned to Chicago for Medical School at Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. Dr. Thomas completed his residency training at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He currently is a Primary Care Internist at Cook County Health and Hospital System

Dr. Thomas has shown a passionate dedication to helping eliminate the health inequities that effect the African American population. He is currently the Medical Director of Project Brotherhood, “A Black Man’s Clinic” Furthermore, he is Assistant Clinical Professor Rush Medical College. He is a member American Public Health Association, Cook County Physicians Association, Chicago Area Health And Medical Careers program, National Medical Association and American College of Physicians.

Craig Spivey, MSW | Director of Social Service


Craig l. Spivey Mr. Spivey serves Project Brotherhood as the Director of Social Services, specializing in serving men who are disenfranchised. With over fifteen years of professional experience in social services and ten years working with at-risk youth, Mr. Spivey is a key member of the leadership team who develops, organizes and implements vital social programming within Project Brotherhood.

Mr. Spivey has a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and holds certifications as an American Red Cross HIV/AIDS educator and HIV Prevention and Test counselor. He is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and is a Type 73 Certified School Social Worker. Mr. Spivey also serves as a local board member of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care, a Congressman Danny Davis Health Task force committee member, a Cook County Ambulatory and Community Health Network Research Unit committee member, AIDS Foundation Correctional Task Force member, and a committee member of the American Public Health Association Black Caucus of Health Workers, Chicago chapter.

Currently, Mr. Spivey is a Medical Case Manager at Cermak Health Services in the Cook County Jail Infection Control Department and was previously a mental health specialist within the Department of Psychiatry at Cermak. He volunteers as an HIV social services coordinator to the Ryan White Title II services for the Woodlawn Health Center and continues to speak nationally, as he has for over six years, on health issues pertaining to the disenfranchised African American male population and the social aspects of Black Men’s Health.

Dr. Thomas A. Mason, MD | Leadership Member


Dr. Thomas A. MasonDr. Mason is committed to eliminating the health care disparities facing African-Americans and other minority populations, as well as improving the care of the patients he serves. He is active within his community, both locally and domestically, delivering numerous presentations in his field of specialty, Black Men’s Health. As an internal medicine physician, Dr. Mason employs a comprehensive approach to delivering healthcare addressing his patient’s physical, mental, and social well-being.

A native Chicagoan, Thomas A. Mason, M.D. received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Microbiology and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine in 2001. Dr. Mason completed his residency training at the Rush University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital in the Primary Care Internal Medicine Program in 2004. Following residency, he began his career as a primary care internist for the Woodlawn Health Center, which is a part of the Ambulatory and Community Health Network of Cook County, caring for the underserved communities on the Southside of Chicago.

Dr. Mason joined Project Brotherhood in 2002 as an internal medicine resident volunteer and in 2004 he became a Leadership member as a full-time attending physician. Currently, Dr. Mason serves as the Clinical Coordinator of the Internal Medicine Department for the Near North Health Service Corporation, a group of seven comprehensive federally qualified community health centers in Chicago. He is also a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and resident physicians from Northwestern as well as other local medical schools, such as Rush Medical College and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Mason is a member of the American Public Health Association, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, and the Cook County Physician’s Association. He is an ambassador of the American Cancer Society and is also pursuing his master’s degree in public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago at this time.

Perrin Greene Jr, BA | Youth Coordinator


Perrin Greene Jr.Mr. Greene represents the future of Project Brotherhood. He is a young, charismatic, educated, strong black man. Perrin began working with Project Brotherhood as a high school student intern at the age of 14, at the time of programs inception. Over the past ten years with Project Brotherhood he has transitioned from student intern to become part of the leadership team.

Perrin has taken all the mentoring and advice from other leadership team members and applied it to his life. Perrin recently completed his bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in Sociology from DePaul University. He is certified as an American Red Cross HIV/AIDS educator is currently enrolled at Loyola University of Chicago completing his Masters degree in Social Work.

Perrin’s role at Project Brotherhood includes assisting with daily operations, as well as community outreach. He co-facilitates Project Brotherhoods health education at Provident Hospital of Cook County. Mr. Greene is also in charge of implementing innovative programs and services for Project Brotherhood and is active within the community. Perrin conducts the Thursday’s social support group and is the supervisor for Project brotherhood high school mentoring program. “One of my top goals is to try and give back to the people in the community, because they have supported me, in all my past, present, and future endeavors.”

Michael Woods | Outreach Coordinator


Mike WoodsMr. Woods serves as the Director of Outreach for Project Brotherhood. In this role, he distributes PB health information in the community. At collaborating health centers and at Provident Hospital of Cook County, he facilitates social support groups and other educational group sessions. Mr. Woods also works with students on multiple levels. He educates young men and women on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and prevention methods in area Chicago public high schools. He also travels to local Universities to educate students about Project Brotherhood and innovative ways to reach black men and connect them with primary care and social services. As the primary barbershop liaison, Mr. Woods helps to maintain Project Brotherhood’s relationship with four community barbershops. In each of these barbershops, barbers trained at PB educate their clients about colon and prostate cancer screening and HIV/AIDS awareness. He also ensures that the barbershops maintain an adequate inventory of condoms and PB literature for distribution to their clients.
